Mogotio, Baringo County: CEDGG, along with other key stakeholders (Baringo county sector working groups), participated in the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Baringo County. The event, held in Mogotio Town, brought together representatives from various sectors, including the county and national government, civil society organizations, and community members.
The launch aimed to raise awareness about the pervasive issue of GBV and mobilize efforts to eliminate it. Participants emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of violence, including harmful social norms and gender inequality.
A key highlight of the event was the recognition that men are also victims of GBV, often facing stigma and underreporting due to societal expectations. The importance of providing support services for male survivors was stressed.
The event also highlighted the ongoing challenge of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), despite significant progress in combating the practice. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating FGM and promoting gender equality.
The 16 Days of Activism campaign will focus on a range of issues, including sexual violence, domestic violence, and harmful traditional practices.
