“If you’re fighting the enemy individually you are not going to win, but if you fight the enemy together, you sure are going to win. And in order to win any fight, you need to get organized.” — Shiraz Durrani
Earlier today, the Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance (CEDGG) proudly hosted a landmark meeting at its offices in Nakuru — the first step in forming the Nakuru Chapter of the CSOs Social Movement. The meeting, convened under the umbrella of the NACSOF, of which CEDGG is a member and one of the main conveners, brought together local actors, civil society representatives, and grassroots leaders to chart a collective path forward.
Facilitated by the Inuka Kenya team, the session was rich in both ideology and strategy. Drawing from Nakuru’s unique position as a hub for activism and civic engagement, participants explored how a locally grounded chapter of the social Movement can address governance challenges, socio-economic inequalities, and human rights issues in the region.
“Movements must be anchored on ideologies,” emphasized Shiraz Durrani who was one of the contributing facilitators, while Paul Masese – CEO CEDGG added, “In movements, sincerity is the core. There must be willingness to make sacrifices so that the cause obtains its objectives.”
Key Commitments from the Meeting:
- Establishment of a Representative Working Group – A multi-sectoral team committed to steering the movement forward beyond this initial convening.
- Issue-Based Organizing – A joint resolve to identify key concerns within Nakuru and organize around them for collective action and policy influence.
Today’s meeting reaffirmed the power of unity, clarity of purpose, and local ownership in building impactful movements. As the Social Movement takes root in Nakuru, CEDGG remains at the forefront, working collaboratively to amplify community voices and advance justice.
