Today, Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance., with continued support from UNFPA Kenya , conducted a focused engagement at Nzimaheart Runners Camp a female-only athletics training facility in Iten dedicated to nurturing 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀.
This special camp visit provided an opportunity to 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗕𝗩/𝗦𝗘𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 (𝗦𝗢𝗣𝘀) to the unique realities of the camp, while ensuring full compliance with 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀.
The athletes and camp management welcomed the session with enthusiasm, terming it a timely and necessary intervention, especially amid rising concerns over Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (SEAH) in the sporting world.
“𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒖𝒔,” shared one of the athletes at the camp.
Nzimaheart’s leadership also pledged full commitment to embed the SOPs into their camp governance and routines, marking another step forward in building safe, dignified, and supportive spaces for women in athletics.
