Lack of access to menstrual hygiene products is the number one reason
girls miss and drop out of school.
Every day, millions of women and girls have to manage their menstruation, an entirely natural physiological process yet one that is considered too ‘private’ to discuss, let alone manage confidently.
The aim of this campaign is to contribute to the huge demand of sanitary commodities in fulfilling the unmet demand for menstrual hygiene products through the Support My Dream Campaign.
In 2021 CEDGG distributed more than 880 dignity packs to adolescent girls and young women in Nakuru informal settlements. This was informed by the need to meet the increasing demand of sanitary commodities and services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the long run CEDGG through the recently formed Nakuru Menstrual Hygiene Network shall continue to advocate for increased allocation through the county budget process to improve menstrual hygiene outcomes.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has had a negative impact on the girl child, especially those in informal settlements. The parents have no jobs to help purchase sanitary pads for the girls. This makes girls vulnerable and some exchange sex with men to get at least sh.50 to buy the pads.
